A visit on modernism in Paris. Paris was one of the cradles of the modern architecture movement in the first half of the 20th century. It was a place of experimentation for art and architecture by Le Corbusier and his colleagues.
Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret conceived the houses LaRoche and Jeanneret, in which the Fondation Le Corbusier is housed, in 1923-25. These two houses are representative of the architecture of the 1920s. We visit the Maison LaRoche which announces Le Corbusier’s theory of the five points of new architecture through its roof garden and horizontal windows.
The apartment-office with roof garden on rue Nungesser and Coli, which housed Le Corbusier from 1934 until his death. The comparison with the neighboring building offers and an appreciation of the architect’s innovation. The façade in glass brick allows a luxurious amount of light into the building.
The 6 town houses clustered along one small street by Robert Mallet Stevens, an architect influenced by De Stijl who worked as director of the social housing development of Paris between the two world wars.
