Paris was one of the cradles of the modern architecture movement in the first half of the 20th century. It was a place of experimentation for art and architecture by Le Corbusier and his colleagues.
LaRoche and Jeanneret
Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret conceived the houses LaRoche and Jeanneret, in which the Fondation Le Corbusier is housed, in 1923-25. We visit the Maison LaRoche which announces Le Corbusier’s theory of the five points of new architecture through its roof garden and horizontal windows.
Molitor
The apartment-studio with roof garden on rue Nungesser and Coli, which housed Le Corbusier from 1934 until his death.The façade in glass brick allows a luxurious amount of light into the building.
Swiss foundation and Brazilian house
The Cité internationale universitaire, composed of pavilions erected by 37 foundations, was created in 1922 on a park of 22 hectares on the site of the former defensive wall of Paris. Often considered as a museum, the Swiss foundation is before all a living space The Brazilian house, inaugurated in 1959, is the result of a collaboration of Lucio Costa and Le Corbusier.
As an alternative to the Cite internationale university campus the second half of the tour can include a visit to the Villa Savoye in Poissy North East of Paris.
