Bibliotheque Nationale- Urbanismo Moderno

Around the Bibliotheque Nationale -New urban planning in Paris

The redevelopment of a 20 hectare former industrial and train track area in the south east of the city between the new Bibliotheque Nationale and the new University  of Paris Diderot campus. The Paris of the future is being invented and new ways to build a dense city are under way in what is seen as the new Latin quarter of Paris.

Dominique Perrault’s Bibliothèque Nationale, which is the icon of the new urban zone Paris Rive Gauche, offers a wide-open space with a view of the Seine within its four towers that metaphorically represent open books.

The Passerelle Simone De Beauvoir by Dietmar Feichtinger crosses the Seine and its banks in one arc of 190 meters. This structure was chosen for its potential for space and efficiency, guaranteeing strength and lightness to connect various heights of banks and roads.

Jacob & MacFarlane’s Cité de la Mode et du Design is nicknamed Docks en Seine. This 14,000 square meter building is designed as a day and night open structure, a place for indoor and outdoor promenades.
